Alphonso Gomez-Rejon associate produced and basically did everything, like we all did, on one of the NYU Thesis student films I did in 1990? It was called Gristle, more later on that. Since then he has become a hot shot and very talented TV and movie director. He called me this spring about his Pilot for the Red Band Society (produced by Steven Spielberg) and now he called me again for a tiny day of pick-ups for his new Feature based on a YA book- Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl. I was lucky to be able to see it first. I have seen quite a few YA Teen centric movies and this one is really pretty good, he did a great job and it has its own cool and funny thing going on. How crazy is it that he remembered, called and finally booked me for the day. We shot outside on a cold wet day in Yonkers. It was pretty mellow and great to see him, and to see him work, etc. Here he is, and the book and stars, and a snap I took on the day.
