In January 2012 I went with my friend Peter Hutton and his wife Carolina to Ethiopia to help shoot part of a film Peter is making on landscapes. We based in Addis Ababa on our way to the Danakil Depression to shoot the people mining salt in the ancient way. Addis was an unbelievable city. We never made it to the north to shoot the salt collection due to some scary gun violence against some other tourists. The Ethiopian Government blamed the violence on the Eritrean people to the north with whom they are in a bit of an endless war. Peter was crushed, we shot a little bit around Addis but I think none of that will see the light of day. The best things were the people and a small jazz club called Jazzamba, I could have stayed there for days on end.
