I forgot to mention Stockholm, the very end of the Eating Animals trip. The 19th and 20th day we arrived in Stockholm and stayed at Ett Hem, the same place I stayed with my girls this summer. The place is very worth it. After Chris left for LA I had a half a day to myself and I went to an Olafur Eliasson show at the Moderna Museet and then to a 10+ course tasting menu at Oaxen Krug. There is a lot to tell here, so be patient. First- it is a tough res to get so I agreed to be at the common table, a bar I assumed. Second- Olafur E. is amazing and always puts on a good show with enough beauty, science, and gimmickery to please any one. Third- to get from the Musset to the Oaxen I had to take a cute little ferry and then walk thru the dark swedish night festooned with Xmas loveliness. Back to 1- I get to Oaxen and the common table is just a table for 5, with two other couples (strangers) and me and I am 10 minutes late and they are waiting. One couple were dressed to the nines for a special Xmas date away from their 5 kids. The other couple were Maria Blom and her husband, who had bought her the dinner as an Xmas gift the year before. Maria turns out to be a very talented, swedish oscar winning, filmmaker. We all eventually became pals and loved the crazy, yummy food (until the well dressed wife got food poisoning and cut out early !?!?!?! ((a little scary)) ). I took the tram halfway home with the others and then spent my last night in Swedish luxury before finally going home after 20 days on the road. THAT, exactly that, is the kind of thing that can make you really love showbiz and the life it thrusts you into.
