Our first night in Uruguay we stayed at the most magical place.  Sara found it.  It is a true destination restaurant (and hotel) called El Garzon.  Francis Mallman, a very famous Uruguyan chef owns it.  Everything about it is perfect- the size, the decor, the UNBELIEVABLE food, the young beautiful staff (perfectly grumpy and mean), everything!  My friend Dave Doernberg would have gone nuts for this.  He probably has been staying there in heaven this whole time.  We arrived late, swam, then had an ottolenghi style Zucchini salad, Gazpacho, Garlic soup, and the best Octopus and smashed potatoes ever. Then we had these amazing small Beef ribs, a Rib eye milanese, and G had an amazing Chicken with the buttery Palms Anna style potatoes right on top.  There was a cool breeze and clouds flashed with silent lightning all around us.  The Uruguyan cowboy neighbor played Mellow latin music in his yard next door.  After we went to sleep in our cozy rooms, practically right in the restaurant, the place filled up from 10:30 until 1?  Then a HUGE thunderstorm hit and dropped at least 10 inches of rain over the next 14 hours, we almost couldn’t drive out because all the rivers overflowed.  Go to this place if you ever get the chance.
